SUTTER/BUTTE COUNTIES, CA (YSBC) - The Biggs baseball and softball teams had their season by the Los Molinos Bulldogs programs in the playoffs.

Baseball

The two programs squared off in the CIF Northern Division V Championship at Butte College on Saturday, May 23.

Los Molinos won the Five Star league and took care of Portola and Etna to reach the D-V final.

The Bulldogs made Biggs junior pitcher Dennis Dewhurst worked hard getting the ball over the plate in the first inning as Dewhurst tossed 39 pitches in the inning and surrendered four runs.

Los Molinos built the decisive lead 11-1 at the end of the third and Dewhurst was taken out after three innings pitched.

Dewhurst surrendered 11 runs off eight hits, walked three, hit two batters and struck out seven in the loss.

Wolverines freshman Jaiden Bandy pitched the fourth inning and shut down the Bulldogs lineup. Bandy led Biggs with two hits in the loss.

Wolverines sophomore Brayden Martin scored the lone run for Biggs in the defeat.

The Wolverines graduate two seniors on this roster and have a lot of room to grow in the offseason with the experience coming back next season.

Biggs has the veteran leadership next season to make another run and get back to another championship.

Softball

Biggs had previously seen Los Molinos twice during the season and been victorious both times during tournaments but defeating a team three times in a row is a major challenge.

The Wolverines lost their first-round matchup to Quincy 8-5 and landed in the elimination game against the Bulldogs on May 21.

Biggs scored the first run of the game in the first inning when sophomore Arden Vines grounded out and scored senior Gracie Sheppard.

The Wolverines struggled at the plate as they had three hits total in the loss and Bulldogs junior pitcher Addison Jones was locked in for Los Molinos.

Jones mixed her pitches well and kept the ball low and forced multiple swings and misses out in front of the ball.

The Bulldogs scored four runs between the second and third innings with five hits and capitalized on a couple defensive errors by Biggs for a 4-1 lead.

The Wolverines cut the lead in half as junior Daisy Seipert hit a run-batted-in (RBI) single to left.

Sheppard did everything you could ask out of an ace inside the circle as she forced Los Molinos to put the ball in play, but the Bulldogs hit the ball in the right spots.

Sheppard tossed six innings in the loss but was relieved in the sixth inning by junior Riley Harrison.

Sheppard tossed six innings in the loss where she allowed eight hits and struck out five.

The Bulldogs scored their final four runs of the game in the sixth off of Harrison all with two outs.

Biggs head coach Zonah Headley told Yuba Sutter Butte Colusa Sports that she was proud of her team for fighting all the way until the last pitch.

Headley added that she couldn’t have been prouder of coaching this team to a postseason and is excited to see the work in the offseason.
