Silent Disco at Rotary Club Event

Dancers enjoy their music, undaunted by any noise from others.

GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – On Saturday night, April 12, Gridley Rotary held its second Silent Disco at Butte Hall, Butte County Fairgrounds, for all ages.

Tickets were $7 if purchased online or $15 at the door. Drinks and food were available. The event was promoted by Rotary as family friendly.

While the concept of a Silent Disco could seem strange, it was obvious that all of those who attended were having a great time. However, attendees were few in number. Rotary members hope that the idea will catch on, as more Silent Discos are held.

A smorgasboard of tunes was delivered via headphones by three different disc jockeys from BlackNoise, from oldies to contemporary hits. Some dancers jumped in formation, while one sang out “SWEET CAR-O-LINE!” He didn’t bother anyone because others were all too busy singing and dancing to their own music. All the while, bright disco lights made colorful patterns on the walls and ceiling.

Three different disc jockeys played a variety of music for the Silent Disco.

“I’m hoping that it really continues to grow here in Gridley. I think we need more things like this for kids. Clean, healthy, good, fun,” said Rotarian Jessica Flatt. “Making friends, large groups, small groups, and it’s not expensive, very user friendly. You can sing along and not be embarrassed. We’d like to do more this summer, once a month, and we want everyone to go home and tell someone else. We’d like everybody’s input.”

“It was so much fun. We had such a great time,” said an attendee named Dawn.

Proceeds from the event will help fund the Rotary commemorative clock scheduled for installation in Gridley on May 9. The clock will have a plaque in memory of Rotarian Dick Jones who passed away last year.
