GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – The Farmer’s Wives Boutique has moved from its old location on Spruce Street to 893 Hazel St. (on the corner of Hazel and Kentucky streets). One of the newer small businesses in Gridley, the store opened last August at the Spruce Street location.

Store owners Kourtney Becker, Brooke Mardesich, Ally Mardesich and Maddi Mardesich Klein made the decision to move to a bigger store and a more prominent location. Although the building is older, the store interior has been remodeled and beautifully decorated that still retains a rustic charm.

The boutique sells stylish women’s clothes, as well as locally-made jewelry, hats and custom-made decorative signs.

Children’s clothing and other items are sold at Farmer’s Wives Boutique.

In addition, the store has collaborated with “The Kat’s Meow” store in Chico to offer a sizable inventory of  children’s clothing, shoes and toys.

Mardesich’s sister-in-law, Jill Mardesich, owns and operates The Kat’s Meow. That store was started in Gridley by Mardesich’s mother, Joan Mardesich, more than 30 years ago, and later moved to 138 W. Third St., Chico.

Farmer’s Wives offers custom gift baskets and gift wrapping year-round. Shopping parties can be arranged for either large events or smaller home gatherings. There was a recent “Sip and Shop” event at Butte Creek Country Club, with wine tasting and a large assortment of merchandise.

“Our original location was wonderful but it didn’t give us a lot of space for expansion. We wanted to collaborate with Kat’s Meow and offer more merchandise. We get a lot more foot traffic in this part of town,” said Becker. “The charm of the vintage building is just amazing. We’re also carrying a lot more home décor than we used to because we have more space.”

Hours for The Farmer’s Wives Boutique are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays to Fridays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, call 530-870-6117.
