GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - It’s time for boiled eggs, grass stains and kids dressed in fancy Easter clothes.

The Gridley Lions Club’s 47th annual Easter Egg Hunt at Manuel Vierra Park on Saturday, April 19 is for children up to 9 years old and starts at 11 a.m.

There will be no hunting or going beyond boundary tapes before the “Go” announcement.  The Easter Egg Hunt is divided into hunting groups.

One group is “very young” for ages 0 to 1, 2 to 3 and 4 to 5. Parents are allowed in the roped off “very young” areas and can help their “very young child(ren)” find eggs. Each of the participants gets a raffle ticket for a separate raffle to win a stuffed bunny.

The next group is the “mid-ages” for ages 6 to 7 and 8 to 9. No parents or older siblings are allowed in the “mid-age areas.” They look for eggs on their own.

For the “mid-age” group, five prize eggs will be painted silver, five will be painted gold, and one will be painted gold and silver. These prize eggs are hidden with all the other eggs. Prize eggs are turned in immediately to the hunt officials for a stuffed bunny prize.

The Miss Butte County candidates will be present on April 19, as will the Easter Bunny. Other fun activities will be held then at Manuel Vierra Park. The Gridley Lions Club encourages those who attend to bring canned food to contribute to local food closets.

Gridley Lions will dye 400 dozen (4,800) hard-boiled eggs. It takes five hours for the Gridley Lions to dye the eggs, an hour to hide them and the hunt is over in approximately five minutes. It is such joy and fun for everyone, according to Lions members.

The Easter Egg Hunt is a time-honored tradition in Gridley. Get ready, set and go at the 11 a.m. April 19 Easter egg hunt.

Manuel Vierra Park is located between the far south ends of Haskell and Washington streets.
