Bulldogs Close in on League Title

GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The Gridley Bulldog boys basketball team continued to play well this past week and improved to 20-4 overall and 7-1 in league.

On Tuesday, Feb. 4 the Bulldogs hosted the Corning Cardinals and dominated on both sides of the ball. The Bulldogs allowed no more than eight points in every quarter and scored 12 or more in every quarter except the 4th.

All night the Bulldogs played lockdown defense and although they scored their lowest point total since Dec. 30, It was enough to put away the Cardinals with a final score of 48-29. Senior Luis Murillo led all scorers with 14 points while junior Bikram Kullar chipped in with 13 points.

On Friday, Feb. 7, the Bulldogs hosted the Live Oak Lions for their senior night. The Bulldogs celebrated the achievements of seniors Max Tolman, Luis Murillo, Matthew Miskin, and Gus Stogsdill. After that, the Bulldogs put on a show and dominated the Lions. The Bulldogs led 44-19 at halftime after a scorching hot first half where they scored 18 in the first, and 26 in the second. The Bulldogs would keep up their scoring in the second half and send their rival Lions home with an 80-52 loss. Senior Matthew Miskin led the Bulldogs with 14 points while seniors Luis Murillo, and Max Tolman added 11 points each.

The Bulldogs will look to become the third consecutive winner of the BVL Championship this last week of the regular season when they’ll take on the Orland Trojans in Orland on Feb. 11, and the Oroville Tigers in Oroville on Thursday the Feb. 13, after press time. Both games will start at 7:30 p.m. and the Bulldogs will need to win one of two in order to claim the Championship.
