Manzanita Basketball Tournament Returns

GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The annual Manzanita Elementary basketball tournament, the Manzanita Invitational, was held on Saturday, Jan.18.

Ninety-two student athletes from six local area teams competed in the annual tournament which was sponsored by the Manzanita Booster Club. The tournament was a round-robin format with 4 girls teams and 4 boys teams. 

The tournament results for the boys bracket found Biggs in 1st place, Sycamore in 2nd, Live Oak in 3rd, and Manzanita in 4th.


Boys' Champ Biggs Wolverines: Damian Scott, Dylan Gonzalez, Waylon Richey, Damian Carranza, Jaiden Bandy, Luke Williams, Bladen Smith, and Keegan Phillips. They are coached by Michael Rudd.


The All-Tournament team for the boys bracket was made up of Hudson Oakley of Manzanita, Rayden Vaughn of Live Oak, Talan Sannar of Sycamore, and Waylon Richey of Biggs. The boys' tournament MVP was Biggs' Dylan Gonzalez.

The girls' tournament bracket was led by Biggs in 1st place, Manzanita in 2nd, Ishi Hills in 3rd, and Central in 4th.

The All-Tournament team for the girls bracket included Mariah Watson of Central, Liana Sanders of Ishi Hills, Millicent Dent of Manzanita, and Evelyn Sparks of Biggs. The girls tournament MVP was Marbella Guitierrez of Biggs.

It was a great tournament and a great day of basketball.
