Lions Struggle in Opening Week
Jan 23, 2025 12:14PM ● By Dillon LongmireLIVE OAK, CA (MPG) - The Live Oak Lions boys basketball team opened their regular season with two losses to move to 7-7 on the season.
The Lions traveled to face the Orland Trojans on Tuesday, Jan. 14 in a game full of offense. The Trojans came out scorching the net in the first quarter scoring 24 points to the Lions 10. The Lions were able to make a small comeback in the second quarter scoring 18 points to make the halftime score 28-35. Orland was able to continue their scoring in the second half and it ended up being too much for the Lions as they fell 53-69.
On Friday, Jan. 17 the Lions held their home opener against the Las Plumas Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds came into the game with fire on their fingertips as they had just scored 82 points against the Gridley Bulldogs in their first regular season game and while the Thunderbirds didn’t score that many points, they still had an impressive offensive effort. After a defensive filled first quarter, the Thunderbirds exploded and scored 25 points to the Lions 10. In the third quarter, the Thunderbirds locked down the Lions and held them to only 4 points which led to a cruise to the finish and the Thunderbirds won 62-34.
The Live Oak Lions will look to redeem themselves as they take on the Gridley Bulldogs at home on Tuesday, Jan. 21 and then on Friday, Jan. 24 the Lions will head to Oroville to take on the Tigers. Both games will start at 7:30 p.m.
