BIGGS, CA (MPG) - The Wolverines ended their three-game winning streak in a hard loss to the Eureka Loggers on Friday, Oct. 11. The final score was Wolverines 0, Loggers 43.

After the junior varsity team took a loss to Eureka 0-16 earlier in the day, Biggs High School alumnus and 2023 homecoming royalty Thomas Job, returned to crown this year’s homecoming king and queen.

Candidates for homecoming king were Eddie Ayala, Kyle Owen and Ethan Villanueva, with queen candidates Allie Little, Mailey Seipert and Bianca Reyes-Hernandez. The crown would go to Reyes-Hernandez with Villanueva taking the title of king.

The varsity team would then charge onto the field, surrounded by the junior varsity players and cheerleaders, eager to take on the Loggers.

Eureka would strike first, getting a touchdown early in the first quarter. The Loggers rusher Gavyn Haberman, would pose a large threat to Wolverine defense, making big gains for the Loggers and eating up the field in the first half.

Despite efforts from the Wolverines’ defenders, even sacking the Loggers quarterback in the second quarter, the Wolverines could not seem to gain traction against the Loggers.

Biggs would head into half-time trailing the Loggers with a score of 0-33.

During the break, homecoming activities would continue, with cheerleaders from each side battling it out on the field. Biggs performed their routine to a mix of artists in a nod to their homecoming float themes.

The floats would then take center stage, being displayed to both visiting and home sides of the field. The 2024 homecoming theme for Biggs High School was famous cities around the U.S.

Seniors took a bite out of the big apple with New York; sophomores stayed close to home with San Fransisco; juniors tried to strike it rich in Las Vegas, while freshman shot for the stars with Hollywood.

Seniors would take first place in the float judging, freshman second, juniors third and sophomores fourth.

The Wolverines would come back hungry after halftime but would fail to score. Eureka would put one more touchdown on the board for the final blow of the game, for a final score of 0-43.

The Wolverines are scheduled to visit Portola to take on the Tigers on Friday Oct. 18, after press time.
