New Areas in Upper Bidwell Park Reopen After Park Fire

CHICO, CA (MPG) - Upper Bidwell Park east of Alligator Hole on the north side and from Bloody Pin to Ten Mile House Road on the south side was impacted by the Park Fire. These impacts left many burned trees and associated hazards.

After the dedicated hard work by Chico Velo Trailworks and numerous volunteers, many of the trails and road sections on both the north and south side of Upper Park have been repaired and can be reopened to the public. The trails and areas to be reopened Sept. 26, are depicted in green on the attached map.

However, for continued public safety the following badly burned sections in Upper Bidwell Park indicated in red on the map will remain closed to all park users (bicyclist, joggers, hikers, etc.) until further notice:

Upper Park Road beyond B Trail

Yahi Trail east of Parking Lot P

Guardian Trail east of Pine Trail

Annie Bidwell Trail east of Bloody Pin Trail

Legacy Trail

Ten Mile House Road

Old Chico Canyon Road east of 10-Mile House Road

The City is asking for the public’s cooperation by not entering these closed areas and to be alert for any potential hazards along the trails. Pursuant to Chico Municipal Code Section 12.R.04.370 anyone who enters a designated closed area of Bidwell Park may be subject to citations and fines.

The Park Division of Public Works O&M appreciates the public’s understanding of the need to keep some areas closed. The Park and Tree Divisions will continue to mitigate hazards, deploy rehabilitation efforts to open additional areas where possible.
