GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Melody “Melly” Spurgeon was only two years old when she was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer in August of 2019.
Since then, Melly has fought through a combination of dozens of MRIs, two open brain surgeries and is currently on her third round of chemotherapy. The story of her heroic struggle has spread throughout the local community.
Melly’s name was submitted by Stephanie Garcia and her daughter Maddie, the 2nd runner-up for Miss Teen Butte County, to be chosen as one of this year’s participants for “Princess for a Day.”
The “Princess for a Day” is a program that provides a fun and exciting day for the youth in Butte County who have overcome a challenge in their lives. The event will have the Princesses playing fun games and enjoying good food.
In addition, the Princesses will also be crowned by Miss Butte County Scholarship Program Titleholders as honorary members of the local Court. The nominees will also be invited to join this year’s Biggs 4th of July Parade.
The “Princess for a Day” event is currently scheduled for Saturday January 27th, but is open to change depending on future nominees’ availability.
