GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Over a delicious lunch, the students from Biggs, Gridley and Live Oak High Schools were honored by the Gridley Quota Club for having a 3.9 GPA or higher.
Gridley Quota has been holding this scholarship luncheon for roughly 20 years and in 2023, celebrated 38 students from area schools.
During the luncheon, students are asked to stand and introduce themselves and share their future plans. In turn, each Quotarian stands, introduces themselves, shares where they went to high school. Afterwards, a game is played during the reading of a traditional story, this year done by Scholarship Chairperson Jan Meyer. At the end of the game, all students will end up with $10 gift cards from businesses throughout the communities.
Quota will also award $12,000 in scholarships to students throughout Gridley, Biggs and Live Oak, but waits to announce winners until each school’s awards night. Six Academic Scholarships in the amount of $750 dollars are awarded to GHS graduates, 4 to LOHS grads, and 2 to Biggs grads. In addition, students have a chance to win 2 medical/science scholarships in the memory of Ruth Rush, long time Quotarian, and 5 $250 Legacy Scholarships that can be combined with any of the above scholarships. There are specific requirements to qualify for the Legacy Scholarship.
Meyer says that they have an amazing scholarship committee of 15 ladies that help decide the recipients of the awards and that if interested in applying for scholarships, students simply need to contact their school counselors’ office for instructions.
