GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – The Gridley American Legion and their Auxiliary recently honored their nominee to Girls State 2022.

Avery Weagant, senior at Gridley High School, was chosen to represent Gridley at the 79th annual American Legion Auxiliary Girls State. Weagant had the opportunity to stay at Sacramento State University and learn about government from the civic level, through county level and on up to State.

Weagant reported to the Auxiliary and to American Legion Post 210 members in attendance about her experience. She shared how she was elected to her city’s council, how elections were held at the county level and how she and other Girls State delegates participated in the Nationalist and Federalist parties, passing legislation, elect officials and select candidates to run for State.  After splitting into randomly selected parties, Weagant being in the Nationalist Party, delegates would hear from candidates running for Governor and even positions on the Supreme Court as they campaigned during this week-long mock government educational experience.

Weagant received a Certificate of Appreciation from the American Legion Post 210, received recognition from the California State Senate signed by California State Senator Jim Neal, and further recognition from California State Assemblyman, James Gallagher.
