Excited onlookers packed Broadway Street as classic cars and much more paraded through downtown, kicking off the annual Live Oak Fall Festival.
LIVE OAK, CA (MPG) - Live Oak’s annual Fall Festival brought the community together to celebrate and enjoy a multitude of family friendly activities, Saturday, September 17th.
The 2022 Fall Fest was brought to the public by the Live Oak Lions, joined this year by the City of Live Oak.
Festivities kicked off just before noon with the Fall Festival Parade, which took its traditional route down Broadway Street. It would be Live Oak’s Youth Soccer Teams leading the charge and opening the parade, with teams dressed in uniform as they made their way down the route. They were followed by a variety of classic cars, the Live Oak High School football team and cheer squad, Sutter County Sheriff, Sheriff’s Office vehicles and more.
Afterwards the crowd would migrate down the street to Memorial Park where more classic vehicles waited on display to be judged. Skee-ball and more games would await children at the Live Oak Lions booth, vendors would tantalize with delectable eats and shopping opportunities, while live music played and candidates running for City Council mingled with the public.
The Live Oak Lions would take a moment to announce this year’s awards. Ms. Live Oak 2021, Lesley Zarco would pass the crown onto Ms. Live Oak 2022, Esmeralda Zavala, and assist with the crowning of the first ever Mr. Live Oak.
The Ms. and Mr. Live Oak titles are a scholarship opportunity offered by the Live Oak Lions to a Senior at Live Oak High School. Ms. and Mr. Live Oak act as ambassadors for the Live Oak Lions, attending their events and being of service to the community. They are awarded a $1,000 scholarship after their term. The first ever Mr. Live Oak title and scholarship went to Mr. Joseph Contreras.
Live Oak Lions and the City of Live Oak, with their royalty crowned, would then announce Firefighter of the Year, Austin Greer and Police Officer of the Year, Sutter County’s Sergeant Charles Green. Car Show winners would wrap up the ceremony and are listed as follows: Best of Show - Gary San Filippo (1937 Ford 78), Sutter County Sheriff’s Pick - Jerry Adams (1968 Chevy Camaro SS), People’s Choice - Kenneth San Filippo (1973 Chevrolet Camaro), Mayor’s Choice - Joe Aguirre (1954 Chevy 3100), Live Oak Lion’s Choice - Jane Hayden (1970 VW Dune Buggy), Fireman’s Choice - Dan Mostats (1955 Chevy Bel-Aire).
