LIVE OAK, CA (MPG) – As part of a growing tradition and sentimental gesture, the 2022 graduating Seniors of Live Oak High School held their Senior Parade, returning to the site where, for most, their education began: Luther Elementary School.
According to Luther’s Principal, Parveen Baines, this tradition started about 6 years ago and has become a very moving part of the Seniors’ graduation process. Not only does it give Luther students the opportunity to celebrate the graduates, but also gives them something to aspire to.
LOHS graduates arrived wearing their purple caps and gowns and stood before a campus full of elementary students holding hand-made signs and gifts as a short introduction and program was held.
Principal Baines said, “I am beyond excited to have this amazing event back this year. This event is something that we look forward to every year, and we do so because we get to honor you (Seniors). You have reached a great milestone in your life, and every educator here is deeply touched to have been a part of your journey and looks forward to celebrating your success through this tradition.” She continued, “Today, we are so proud to see you stand before us in your caps and gowns as Live Oak Lions. You are why we do what we do.”
This year’s parade would be a very special one for Principal Baines as her youngest child was a member of the LOHS graduating Class of 2022 visiting the school.
As graduates paraded around the perimeter of the school’s basketball courts, high-fives, hugs, smiles and even tears could be seen as the graduates made their way around to each child. Not only was it truly a memorable moment for the graduates to reminisce about their educational journey, but it was also an inspiring moment for the youngsters to see what they could accomplish if they applied themselves to their education.
The Luther School Choir prepared a musical tribute to the Seniors, after which administrators opened it up to the graduates. Each graduate got the opportunity to address the students at Luther School, sharing where they planned to go to school after commencement and/or what their career choices were. Some made shout outs to younger siblings attending Luther or teachers that made impacts on their lives.
Principal Baines would say, “Hold onto your grit, your courage, and your perseverance. Hold onto the great pride you sense in all of us today and keep that with you and in your hearts. And please accept our sincerest congratulations. Congratulations Class of 2022!”
