GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - A happy and blessed celebration took place in Gridley this past Saturday, May 7th, 2022.

With the help of the United Methodist Church, who loaned their house of worship, the Old Roman Catholic Church (Utrecht Succession) Archdiocese of California was able to preside over the Confirmation and First Holy Communion of 6 participants.  Archbishop Ivan Castañeda celebrated the 4 teens receiving their Confirmation and offered the Mass for the 2 recipients of First Holy Communion.  Alongside Abp. Castañeda was Vicar General Monsignor Tom Dowling and Deacon Raúl Madera from Gridley.  He describes the event as being “a meaningful experience for all of the people who joined in the celebration of Holy Sacraments.”

Clearly, this Catholic Church is more than a congregation, they are family.  After the ceremony, families gathered around to take photos with one another as well with Abp. Castañeda and Deacon Madera.  Smiles and laughter echoed the significance of what this day meant, honoring their love of faith.

Belinda Ruvalcaba of Live Oak added, “it is great to have Abp. Castañeda be a part of our community.  He is always readily available for anyone and everyone.  We truly appreciate the dedication and love he has for his flock.”

Every other week, the archbishop willingly travels the 3-hour commute, leaving his Parish of San Bruno"'an act not always practiced among clergy members.  Belinda also added, “Abp. Castañeda is certainly practicing what Pope Francis has encouraged for over 9 years. Clergy members need to leave their parishes and go out and worship with their flock.”

This event marks the beginning of a new commencement that aspires to bring the word of God, the faith of prayer, and above all, the love of family back into the lives of anyone in need.
