Burn Permits Required Beginning April 15
Apr 15, 2022 12:00AM ● By CAL FIRE/Butte County Fire DepartmentBUTTE COUNTY, CA (MPG) – Beginning Friday, April 15, 2022 all Butte County residents planning to burn residential dooryard debris will be required to have a burn permit in their possession. Free permits can be obtained at burnpermit.fire.ca.gov.
All the burning regulations can be viewed by visiting www.buttecounty.net/fire and clicking the orange “CAN I BURN TODAY?” button. Note the change in allowed burn hours during the permit period. Starting April 15, burning is allowed between 6:00 AM and 11:00 AM on Permissible Burn Days as reported on the Butte County Air Quality Management District website (bcaqmd.org) or by calling 530-332-9407.
During the permit period, April 15 until the date burning is suspended, residential burning rules are the same throughout the county except in the following areas:
City of Oroville: Permits required year-round. Burn hours and locations determined seasonally by jurisdiction; City of Chico: No burning allowed year-round; Town of Paradise: Burn permits are required and must be purchased online at www.townofparadise.com. If internet is not an option, you can obtain a burn permit at Station 81, 767 Birch Street, during office hours: 8AM to 5PM. Burning is typically suspended June 1st each year until the end of CAL FIRE’s declared Fire Season.
CAL FIRE Butte Unit Fire Chief Garrett Sjolund reminds Butte County residents to be careful when working outdoors during the spring and summer months. “Burning your yard waste can be an effective part of your defensible space plan, but you need to make sure you’re following all the burning rules and regulations because you can be held liable if that fire escapes your control.”
