WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – The Bulldogs recently stepped into cat territory, having the unique and electrifying opportunity to play at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento.

The stadium, home to the River Cats of Minor League Baseball (MiLB), gave the Gridley boys a taste of what it’s like playing under the bright lights. The opportunity to play in a Triple-A ballpark was earned by the Bulldogs as a reward for selling River Cats tickets during a fundraiser.

Gridley (10-3, 2-1 Butte View League) only had one loss going into the game, which was held on March 21 against rivals, Colusa (14-0, 5-0 Sac Valley). The Red Hawks snapped the Bulldogs’ seven-game winning streak in dominant fashion, winning 10-0.

Gridley coach Javier Solis said that being from a small town, playing in a Triple-A stadium was a little nerve racking for his players. Players got the full experience with walk-up music as they approached the plate to bat. Pitchers got to warm up in the bullpens and everybody got a chance to play on the field.

“They did great,” Solis said. “It was definitely a good experience for them.”

The Bulldogs bounced back from the loss two days later with a 7-6 road win at Winters (5-10, 2-1 Sac Valley). However, this week, Gridley lost at home to Sutter 7-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

“The boys are still playing great baseball,” Solis said after the loss to Sutter. “We are still sitting in a good position in league (play).”

The Bulldogs will attempt to exact revenge against the Huskies (10-1, 6-1 Butte View) on Friday at Sutter with first pitch set for 4 P.M.
