GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - It took a little work getting back to life after the COVID-19 shutdown, and after having to cancel last year’s soccer season, it only got worse. Just before the season started in September, Sycamore informed Gridley Parks and Recreation that they would be redoing their fields, leaving the Gridley Rec Soccer League with little options on where to practice and play.
Trina Leishman was not going to let another season go. Working with Gridley High School, they were about to work out a deal that would allow Gridley Rec Soccer to use their soccer fields. Together with Larry Teal they were able to put on a successful Soccer season.
Packed parking lots were commonplace at Gridley High school as Soccer competed with the Gridley Titans on overlapping Saturdays, but parents packed in without complaint, eager to watch their children sprint down the field or pick flowers from the grounds. Goals were scored, friendships were made.
Last Saturday saw the end of a great season. Despite the cold and wind, the sidelines were still packed with parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles for one last cheer and one last laugh, and the end of the games all came away with smiles and memories.
