BIGGS, CA (MPG) – Homecoming 2021 was a little wonky for Biggs High School.

Originally slated for the week of September 27 - October 1st, Biggs was thrown for a loop when their intended rival for their Homecoming football games, Etna High School, cancelled last minute. But Biggs carried on in good spirits, literally, with spirit dress-up days ‘Merica Monday, Twin Tuesday, Hawaiian Wednesday, Theme Thursday (Decades) and Spirit Friday (dress in green and black).

Since the floats were already built, in anticipation of Friday’s homecoming game and festivities, Biggs high schoolers carried on with the Homecoming Parade that week. This year’s Homecoming Theme “Decades” gave students the perfect fodder for float décor; Freshman with “The 50’s”, Sophomores with “The 70’s”, Juniors with “The 60’s”, and Seniors with “The 80’s”! Winner would not be revealed until the rescheduled dates of Homecoming, October 18th-22nd.

As the re-scheduled Homecoming date neared, Biggs Football prepared to tackle Weed High School on the Gridiron. Leading up to the big game, Biggs Leadership felt another round of spirit days were needed to amp up the student body. Last week, students took part in PJ Day, Jersey Day, “Anything but a back-pack Day”, Color Day (where each class wore a specific color) and wrapped up the week with “Wear Pink Day” in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, October.

A rally on Friday, October 22nd, introduced Homecoming 2021 King Candidates, Cody Roles, Riley Rutherford and Kenny Goforth and Queen Candidates, Ashley Rudd, Jasmine Anders and Kirsten Slusser. The winners would be announced at that evening’s football games, along with the winners of the floats.

After a disappointing Varisty football loss to Weed, Biggs took home some wins in other categories. For floats, Freshman took home 1st place, with 2nd place going to the Sophomores, 3rd place to the Juniors and 4th place to the Seniors. As far as royalty, Ms. Kirsten Slusser was crowned Queen, her Homecoming King, Kenny Goforth.

It may have been a drawn-out Homecoming 2021 for BHS, but it sure was fun!
