GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The rivalry every year between the two schools makes for an eventful week. Gridley High School and Live Oak High School leadership teams try to rally the school spirit all week leading up to the annual Harvest Bowl between the two football teams. The Bulldogs have had a dominant run with the trophy for the past seven bowl games. The 2012 season was the last year that the Live Oak Lions won the Harvest Bowl and they were ready to win it back on Friday, October 1, 2021.

Live Oak kicked off to start the contest and the Bulldogs came out hard charging. On the first play from scrimmage, junior running back, Brett Farr, broke loose to the left side of the field on a 52-yard scramble for the score to put the Bulldogs up quick 7-0. The Bulldogs defense came up big on Live Oaks' third snap on offense when Andrew Engelmann recovered the loose ball. The ensuing drive, Bulldogs quarterback Shay Carr, ran it in for the 27-yard score. After a forced punt, the Bulldogs got the ball back, where Farr once again punched it in for the score, this time from 17-yards out. With the Bulldogs up 21-0, senior captain Tino Sormano, blocked the Lions punt and gave the Bulldogs another possession inside Lions territory. The Bulldogs drove down the field again before Carr punched it in for his second touchdown of the game from 4-yards out. When the Bulldogs got the ball back again, Farr punched it in from 3-yards out for his third touchdown of the game. The first quarter ended with the Bulldogs having a tremendous lead 35-0.

Notably throughout the rest of the game, junior running back Aiden Gomez scored on a 6-yard run in the second quarter, senior free safety Diego Romo intercepted a pass to end the first half,  and junior running back Spencer Davis scored on a 4-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to give the Bulldogs the 49-0 victory.

Farr led the Bulldogs offense with ten carries for 146 yards and three touchdowns. Carr carried the ball eleven times for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Gomez had three carries for 20 yards and a score. Davis had seven carries for 38 yards and one touchdown. Senior kicker went 7-for-7 in points after touchdown. Romo had the one interception and junior defensive end Andrew Engelmann had one fumble recovery.
