BIGGS, CA (MPG) - It’s that time of year again when young women around the North State compete in their high school’s annual flag football games. For Biggs High School, the Lady Wolverines hit the field at Del Kalbach Stadium on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, for some entertaining competition. The freshman and senior classes paired up as one team while the sophomores and juniors formed the other team. Each team was coached by football players within their respective classes.
The freshman / senior team kicked off to start the game. On the first drive by the sophomore / junior class, junior quarterback, Skyler Bailey, launched a pass deep down field, but was intercepted by freshman Emily Williams. Williams raced down the sideline evading tacklers approximately 65 yards before her flag was pulled down inside the 10-yard line. The sophomore / junior class held strong and forced the turnover on downs without allowing the touchdown. On the first play of the ensuing drive, senior Ashley Rudd, sacked the quarterback inside the end zone for the safety, giving the freshman / senior class the 2-0 lead. Both teams battled back and forth with struggle to move the ball down field the rest of the first half.
During halftime, the male cheerleaders put on an exhilarating performance for the annual halftime routine choreographed by Biggs High School cheerleaders. Their five minute routine really got the crowd going.
The second half of the game was pretty quiet by both teams, with Rudd making a lot of stops behind the line of scrimmage on defense. The freshman / senior team went on to win the contest by a final score of 2-0 thanks to that early safety. Coaches Cody Roles, Riley Rutherford, Brady Smith, and Ethan Villanueva awarded Rudd with the Most Valuable Player honors for her performance on offense and defense.
