GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Coming off a huge win over Corning High School at home, the Gridley Bulldogs varsity football team had great momentum taking them into last Friday night's game against the visiting Marysville Indians at the Boneyard. Both teams looked electric from the opening kickoff. The Dawg Squad dressed in their Hawaiian themed attire kept the Bulldogs energized.

After the Indians scored first to take a 7-0 lead, the Bulldogs fought their way back on the legs of senior quarterback, Shay Carr, who scored for the Bulldogs to even the game up 7-7. A tremendous defensive stop gave the Bulldogs another opportunity to score once again by Carr. On the ensuing kick-off, Marysville’s kick returner took it to the house for the score to take the game into halftime 14-13.

In the third quarter Shay Carr connected with junior wide receiver, Angel Castaneda, on a spectacular touchdown grab in the back of the endzone to retake the lead 19-14. The Indians retook the lead later in the fourth quarter and gave the Bulldogs a number of opportunities to punch one in. A few miscues late in the game ended the Bulldogs charge and the game ended 22-19 in favor of the Indians.

Carr led the Bulldogs on offense with 148 passing yards, one passing touchdown, and two interceptions. Carr also rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. Junior running back / wide receiver ran the ball for 67 yards on 10 carries and caught two passes for 35 yards in the game. Castaneda had 4 receptions for 24 yards and a touchdown in the game. Junior wide receiver, Andrew Engelmann, led the receiving core with 81 yards on 3 receptions.
