The home crowd really got the Lady Bulldogs into a groove

GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Rivalry’s are always fun. They intensify the meaning of competition. They draw large crowds who bring all the noise and hype. The energy feeds the athletes and brings about a higher level of play that is oftentimes difficult to bring every game. Last Wednesday, September 22, 2021, the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Lions hit the volleyball court in their version of the Harvest Bowl rivalry game between the two schools.

The home crowd really got the Lady Bulldogs into a groove early in the first set against the Lady Lions with a number of quick points from junior captain, Kennison Cota, with a number of kills and blocks at the middle hitter position. Cota would finish the match with a total of nine kills, four blocks, and fifteen digs. Senior middle hitter, Haven Counihan, got the opportunity to play the setter position during this match, and shined all over the court. After a few days of practice, Counihan looked like a natural setter for the Lady Bulldogs with fifteen assists in the match. Counihan also finished the match with six aces and ten digs. Senior libero, Audrey Johnson, had herself a game as well with eleven digs and ten receptions for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Bulldogs commanded the entire match from the beginning of every set, winning 11-25, 19-25, and 13-25 in three straight sets.

The Lady Bulldogs improve to 7-9 overall (1-2 league).
