GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - As Gridley Unified School District gets the ball rolling on a new school year, it’s not just the first week back-to-school for Gridley’s students, but also for it’s new School Resource Officer.
In partnership with GUSD, Gridley Police Department will be providing our Gridley schools with a School Resource Officer (SRO). The GPD has announced that the new SRO will be none other than Officer Jared Cooley and K-9 Kilo!
Officer Cooley and Kilo will be on-site and/or visiting campuses affiliated with GUSD throughout year, attending events such as sporting games, dances, or special occasions such as homecoming at the high school. In the past, SRO’s have also aided the school district with truancy issues. The idea is to promote student safety and foster healthy relationships between law enforcement and the youth.
Officer Cooley says, “Kilo and I are excited to get to know everyone and to help the school district out however we can.” Officer Cooley has spent time working with youth in the past, coaching t-ball and cub scouts. Of the SRO position, Cooley says, “this is new for me” but adds that he and his partner are ready for it. “Kilo says he’ll be happy as long as there are treats!”
Both are sure to be a fantastic addition to GUSD campuses and Kilo, no doubt, will get plenty of treats!
