GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - On July 12, 2021 at approximately 1850 hours, the Gridley Police Department responded to a shoplifting in progress at the Dollar General, located at 1480 Highway 99 in Gridley. Dollar General employee(s) advised that two suspect(s) described as white female adults entered the Dollar General, while a third suspect(s), described as a white female adult and fourth suspect(s), described as a white male adult, were positioned toward the rear of the business, parked in a green Toyota Camry. The first two suspect(s) loaded a shopping cart of retail items and left out the rear door of the business, setting off the door alarm.

A Dollar General staff member attempted to stop the suspect(s). While attempting to stop the suspects(s), one of the suspects struck the staff member with an object. The suspect(s) then fled to the Toyota Camry with several retail items and left northbound on State Route 99. Responding officers conducted an initial area check, but were unable to locate the described suspect(s) or suspects(s) vehicle. Surrounding law enforcement agencies were notified of the incident while the GPD Officers conducted the investigation.

Approximately 30 minutes later, while GPD Officers were conducting the investigation at Dollar General, GPD received a call for service from Safeway, located at 1596 Highway 99, regarding a shoplifting in progress. Safeway staff members advised that two white female adult(s), entered Safeway and loaded a shopping cart with retail items and left out the front door of the business. Safeway staff provided a description of the suspect(s). The suspect(s) and suspect(s) vehicle were last seen driving eastbound on East Gridley Road, towards Highway 70. Surrounding law enforcement agencies were notified of the updated information and the last direction of travel. GPD Officers conducted an immediate area check and were unable to locate the suspect(s) or suspects(s) vehicle. Based upon the descriptions of the suspect(s) and the suspect(s) vehicle that were provided, GPD officers were able to determine the suspect(s) to be the same suspect(s) and suspect(s) vehicle from the Dollar General investigation. This was later confirmed using video surveillance footage from both Safeway and Dollar General that the suspect(s) and suspect(s) vehicle were in fact the same suspect(s).

These investigations are on-going and anyone who may have witnessed these crimes, may recognize any of the suspect(s) or suspect(s) vehicle or have any further information regarding these crimes, please contact the Gridley Police Department, Sergeant Scott Olsgard at (530) 846-5670.
