GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Once again, Project Biggs and Biggs Festival Events combined forces to light up faces and the skies with its three-part, two-day Biggs 4th of July Hometown Independence Day Celebrations.

Saturday’s Community Breakfast, complete with biscuits and gravy (these guys weren’t messing around), readied revelers for the Biggs Independence Day Parade. The breakfast was such a hit, pancakes ran out by 9:00 am, yet everyone was left satisfied.

With Old Glory out in large numbers lining B Street and a healthy crowd stretched along the route, the Independence Day Parade got off to a start at 10:30 am. Leading the way was the Sons of the Union Veterans Henry C. Veatch Camp 30 dressed in period clothing and carrying the colors. They were followed by solid turn out of parade entries, including dignitaries Parade Marshall Ashley Tanner, Mayor of Biggs Bo Sheppard and Butte County Supervisor Todd Kimmelshue. Classic cars joined the ranks of Sheriff's Department Vehicles, CALFIRE units, local sports teams, churches, and businesses all coming out to show their patriotism and love for our great nation! Not to mention, their hometown, Biggs.

Red, white and blue festivities cooled off for the evening but lit right back up Sunday night out at the Biggs High School Football Stadium. Waterslides kept the kiddos cool as adults enjoyed the vendors prior to the Biggs “Hometown Celebration” fireworks show. As always, Biggs Festival Events and MC Brian Bassett came through with an excellent Independence Day program, culminating in a fireworks review of over 370 shells! Longtime pyrotechnician Edson Smith of Gridley has worked with Basset, who does all the legwork procuring the fireworks and organizing their arrival since 2003 to set up the dazzling display and officially operate the sky-shattering show.

Organizers would like to remind the public that wonderful community events like these run on donations and the amazing power of countless volunteers. Therefore, many thanks go out to those who donated their time, use of their vehicles, services or money to make the Biggs Independence Day Celebrations 2021 one great national birthday party!
