Gridley All-Stars Go Deep into District 47 Tournament

GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Gridley Little League baseball had a full season this year with a lot of excitement at the ball fields for the minors, majors, and juniors divisions. At the conclusion of their twelve-game regular season, each division selected players to represent Gridley Little League in the District 47 All-Star Tournament held at the Chico Westside ballfields in Chico, CA.
The Gridley Juniors All-Star team, coached by Baldemar Torres, Claudio Gonzalez, and Gary Breitbarth, consisted of Aaron Kullar, Acesen Gomez, Bikram Kullar, Christian Young, Hunter Dewsnup, Jacob Duncan, Jovan Kalkat, Nathan Zumwalt, Riley Engelmann, Tanner Tillotson, Trenton Ehrke, and William Yost. The juniors team got started with their tournament on Friday, June 25, 2021, against Paradise Little League with an 11-1 victory. They moved along in the tournament to face Durham Little League on Sunday, June 27th where they lost in a close battle 3-0, and got bumped to the losers bracket. They got back on the ballfield Tuesday, June 29th, where they faced Paradise Little League for the second time and won 20-5 to move back to the winners bracket. In their fourth game of the tournament Wednesday, June 30th, the Gridley juniors baseball team faced Durham Little League for a second time and lost 15-0 to end their tournament play.
The Gridley Majors All-Star team, coached by Bryan Clark, Guillermo Santillan, and Roberto Esparza, consisted of Benjamin Dewsnup, Caden Garcia, Chance Brazzel, Chase Ehrke, Israel Garcia, Johnny Delgado, Jose Guillen, Kasey Clark, Mateo Santillan, Noah Zumwalt, Roberto Esparza, and Trey Rosser. The majors baseball team got their tournament play started on Saturday, June 26, 2021, against Orland Little League where they won 17-0 to advance in the winners bracket. The next day, Sunday, June 27th, the majors team faced off against Biggs/Richvale Little League in a thriller comeback game and won 13-11 to stay in the winners bracket. On Tuesday, June 29th, the majors team once again took to the field to play Chico Westside Little League, where they lost 13-2, and got bumped to the losers bracket. The next day, June 30th, the majors team took on Chico Eastside Little League, where they lost again to end their tournament play.
The Gridley Minors All-Star team, coached by Javier Solis, Jesse Egan, and Jeffrey Smith, consisted of Antonio Reyes, Anthony Bowen, Benjamin Zumwalt, Canon Sannar, Carson Cornell, Carson Schaaf, Chandler Dixson, Dean Little, Jaden Solis, Marcos Sarabia, Maverick Cable, Steven Patterson, and Ty Egan. The minors baseball team got their tournament play started on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at the same time as the majors baseball team. Facing off against Chico Eastside Little League to start their tournament play, Gridley lost 11-1 to get bumped to the losers bracket. On Monday, June 28th, the minors team hit the field against Willows Little League, where they won a high scoring affair 15-10. The next day, the minors team hit the field again, this time against Chico Westside Little League, where they won 12-2 and moved back to the winners bracket to face Chico Eastside for a second time. On Wednesday, June 30th, Chico Eastside proved too much for the Gridley minors team and ended their tournament play with a final score of 14-2.
