GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Gridley’s American Legion Post 210 had a few awards up their sleeve at their last meeting, Wednesday, June 30th, in which they intended to honor individuals they felt deserving.

If you don’t know Melvin Strong, you should. He and his family run Big Momma’s BBQ in Biggs and are salt of the earth, amazing people. Strong’s unshakeable faith in God has pulled him through deep adversity his family and business has experienced these past years, yet he keeps on giving. Strong is known for donating his amazing BBQ to those in need and more to support the community and has always taken good care of our local American Legion.

Strong was honored for his good deeds by American Legion Post 210 Wednesday, July 30th at Veterans Memorial Hall. Commander Owen Stiles read aloud part of the award, saying that Strong was chosen for “Contributing to the advancement of the American Legion programs and activities dedicated to God and country...” With a hearty handshake, Strong humbly accepted the honor.

Commander Stiles says that it is important to both him and the Post 210 to honor the individuals and organizations in the community that support the American Legion, especially our local post, and plans to continue to honor outstanding individuals.
