BIGGS, CA (MPG) - A community favorite, the Biggs 4th of July Hometown Celebration, is set to give you one explosive good time this weekend!

Project Biggs and Biggs Festival Events was forced to cancel their Biggs 4th of July Hometown Celebration and grandstand fireworks show last year, despite desperate attempts to prevail over COVID-19 shutdowns. Not this year, COVID!

Festivities start Saturday, July 3rd, with a Community Breakfast served at the Biggs Community Hall from 7:00-10:00 am. Organizer for the Biggs 4th Hometown Celebration, Brian Basset says it’s not just a pancake breakfast; “It’s a full-on breakfast. Pancakes, sausage, eggs, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, fruit, juice. Coffee…” A basic breakfast costs $8.00, and those wanting to add biscuits and gravy to their plates will pay an extra $2.00. The breakfast is staffed by volunteers and proceeds go towards the next year’s festivities.

The fun continues after breakfast with the Biggs Independence Day Parade down B Street begininning at 10:30 am. Each year, community members, groups, members of the military, along with vehicles decked out in red, white, and blue, and royalty from the Miss Butte County Scholarship program caravan down a flag-lined street to the delight of all residents to kick off our nation’s birthday celebration in style!

As the evening approaches on Sunday the 4th and the clock strikes 6:00 pm, the grandstands at Biggs High School football field open and guests are invited to enjoy the vendors selling crafts, snow cones, food and more. For the children, six blow-up water slides will keep them busy and cool (12 and under only please), and the adults can sit back and enjoy live music leading up to the main event"'the fireworks!

This year, Sheriff Honea will proceed over the Flag Ceremony, kicking off the program and eventually the count down to the fireworks review. Returning this year to light up the skies above Biggs is pyrotechnic artist extraordinaire, Edson Smith and his crew. Smith has been awing the community of Biggs and Gridley with his pyro-talents for around 20 years!

Come out this Independence Day and celebrate your freedom at the Biggs 4th of July Hometown Celebration!
