Gridley Gators Place 1st in Annual Swimming Invitational

GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The Gridley Gators hosted their 52nd Invitational Swim Meet over the weekend of June 25 - 27, 2021 with a great showing of talented swimmers of all ages. Swim teams from Chico, Durham, Lassen, Orland, Oroville, Paradise, Weaverville and Willows competed over the three-day period in some thrilling races to the finish.

Individual swimmers competed at different age brackets in events like the 25-yard freestyle, 25-yard backstroke, 25-yard butterfly, 25-yard breaststroke, 50-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard butterfly, 50-yard breaststroke, 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard individual medley, 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard individual medley, and the 500yard freestyle. Many competed for the first time, while other seasoned veterans competed to take first place or to beat their personal records. 

At the conclusion of the swim meet on Sunday, June 27th, individuals were awarded ribbons and medals for their accomplishments throughout the competition. The Gridley Gators as a team took home first place. High point winners were:

Charlee LaViolette (girls 9-10 years old), Rebecca Solis (girls 11-12 years old), Brynlee Laviolette (girls 15-16 years old), and Cash Mills (boys 17-18 years old). Mills broke Gridley Gators records for the 500-yard freestyle (new record: 5:44.26) and 200-yard freestyle (new record: 2:00.64).
