Special City Council Meeting Tuesday, June 22nd at 6:00 pm to Discuss 2021-2022 Budget

LIVE OAK, CA (MPG) – After more than a year of City of Live Oak offices being closed to the public, and as a result, the Live Oak City Council meetings closed to physical attendance, Live Oak City Hall has announced its reopening.

City Hall will resume standard business hours beginning Monday, June 21st, Mon-Fri from 9:00 am -5:00 pm. The city has attempted to hold to the Brown Act by making City Council meetings viewable online through Zoom with accompanying audio and video, despite the occasional “technical difficulties” and the inability to see the Councilmembers in attendance.

Over the past months, some could say the City of Live Oak has hit a rough patch. Last year, the Sutter County Grand Jury turned its attention to the City of Live Oak and issued a report on their findings, which was not optimal. That was followed by allegations circulated by a City Council member against the City’s Manager, former attorney and more. Then just last month, the acting Mayor Luis Hernandez resigned from his position, leaving it vacant effective May 31st. The current City Council is in the process of filling that position with Vice Mayor Nancy Santana temporarily acting as Mayor pro-tem. Meanwhile the 2021-2022 Budget is looming on the horizon.

At the June 16th meeting, Council reviewed Agenda Item #4, “Adoption of City Budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2021-22” and Agenda Item #5 “Continuing Budget Resolution Fiscal Budget for 2021-22”. Allegedly Agenda Item #4 was motioned to be tabled by Councilmember J.R. Thiara until a public budget workshop could be held. The motion passed unanimously. Agenda Item #5 was again subject to a motion by Councilmember J.R. Thiara but went to a vote and failed 2-2.

The City of Live Oak has put out a public notice inviting Live Oak Residents to Join the City and City Council for a special City Council Meeting Tuesday, June 22nd at 6:00 pm at City Hall to discuss the 2021-2022 budget, hoping for public feedback. The City of Live Oak said, “We strongly encourage the public to join this and future Council Meeting.”
