"We know we will have a strong group of Ag students coming in the Fall”

GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – Two hundred excited, nervous 8th graders visited the Gridley High School Campus last week, but not for freshman orientation.

Students from both Manzanita School and Sycamore School were getting a look at some classes and curriculum not offered at their schools at 8th Grade Ag Discovery Day. GHS Ag Department and FFA hosted the incoming freshman, giving tours throughout the departments and 7 stations: Ice breakers/get to know your station, Ag Mechanic’s Shop, Horticulture/Greenhouse, Animal Science/Petting Zoo, Floral Room/Floral Design, Agri-science Science rotation, and All-About FFA Classroom station.

As students discovered which stations interested them the most, AG department staff suggested the classes in which the student would want to register for next year.

The 8th graders were treated to an AG Department style BBQ, and both 8th graders and current Ag students were gifted commemorative 8th Grade Ag Discovery Day t-shirts by the District. Ag Teacher Jenny Kaslin Haley says, “The day went extremely well! Everyone was excited to see the new faces and we know we will have a strong group of Ag students coming in the Fall.”
