GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - It’s been a long time coming, but the Biggs High School softball team was finally back on the diamond to open this year’s season hosting CORE Butte of Chico, CA on Monday, April 19, 2021. Senior pitcher, Megan Shelton, started in the circle for the Lady Wolverines and looked poised from the get-go.

Shelton shut down the Lady Lynx offense to get things started before the Lady Wolverines offense went to work. Shelton knocked in the first run of the ballgame with a stand up triple as the Lady Wolverines scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back for the 10-0 victory.

Shelton led the offense going 1-for-2 with a triple, three runs, and one RBI. Senior Ashley Rudd went 1-for-2 with a double and scored three runs. Freshman Sierra Swanson went 1-for-1 with two RBIs, and freshman Jazmine Ibarra went 1-for-3 with three RBIs.

Shelton threw all five innings in the game striking out five batters, walking one, and hitting one.

Shelton was back in the circle for the Lady Wolverines the next day in Biggs against Durham High School. Shelton once again had a strong outing, throwing all seven innings, striking out four, walking one, and allowing six hits as the Lady Wolverines beat the Lady Trojans 5-0.

Shelton once again led the team in offense, going 2-for-3 with an inside the park home run and a single, scoring two runs, and driving in two runs. Junior Zonah Headley went 1-for-3 with a single and two RBIs and Swanson went 1-for-3 with a single and one RBI.

Shelton attributes all her success and the Lady Wolverines success so far this season to her teammates, “I couldn’t have done it without my team.”
