Delgado Shines in Varsity Girls Meet at Colusa

COLUSA, CA (MPG) - Janessa Delgado had an impressive time of 22:39 in the dual cross country meet at the Colusa-Sacramento State Recreation area. Her personal record improved over a minute compared to last week’s race. A newcomer to the sport of cross country, Delgado is making heads turn with her performance as she took home the first place medal. Giselle Fuentes, also a freshman, finished 2nd (25:34). Gisela Cardenas (27:57), Estrella Favian Mora (29:56) and Angela Gutierrez (32:45) placed 5th, 6th, and 7th, respectively for the Lady Bulldogs. Colusa did not field a full team.
4th-year competitor and team captain, Damian Mendoza Jr, took 2nd in the meet hosted by Colusa High. He was just 16 seconds behind Neo Harter of Colusa (18:56). Damian’s time was 19:10 over the 3-mile course. Cesareo Villalobos (9), finished 4th overall (19:40) and set a personal best for the early season. Jose Valdez and Lucian Manor of the Redhawks crossed the line 5th & 6th. Emmanuel Martinez (10) finished 7th at 21:05, his career-best time as a 2nd-year varsity runner. Gordon LaBuff (11) had 9th (21:54) and Cesar Zepeda Martinez(11) finished 22:26, both first-year runners also setting a personal-best mark. Geovannie Gutierrez (12) and Tyler Owens (11) had 27:44 and 32:58.
The Bulldogs will host their first home meet on Wednesday, February 17th against the Sutter Huskies. Gun time is 2:00 PM, Gridley Fairgrounds. Come support the team!
