The State of California has allocated nearly 10,000 doses to Butte County

BUTTE COUNTY, CA (MPG) – Last Thursday, December 17th, the first doses of COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Butte County and vaccinations immediately got underway.

The State of California has allocated nearly 10,000 doses to Butte County which includes a total of 3,000 of the Pfizer vaccine and 7,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine. According to Butte County Health Director, Dannette York, Enloe Medical Center in Chico was the first to receive the vaccinations due to the fact that they are the only hospital in Butte County registered and approved by the State (at the time of this article). Both Oroville Hospital and Orchard Hospital are in the application process to become registered vaccine providers.

In a press conference Thursday afternoon, Enloe hospital spared no time and immediately vaccinated one of their front-line healthcare professionals, broadcasting it for the public. The shot was one of the freshly received Pfizer vaccines and was quick, simple, and given in the upper arm - it drew a round of applause from those in attendance.

During this Phase 1 of vaccine distribution, vaccinations are prioritized for healthcare workers at the highest risk of exposure to COVID-19. Per BCDPH, the vaccine is not available to other healthcare workers of the general public at this time. As supplies increase and additional healthcare providers are brought online as registered vaccination locations in Phases 2, 3 and 4, vaccinations will become available to the public.

The BCDPH asks that healthcare providers, clinics and the public wait to be contacted by the BCDPH about procuring vaccinations, to not overwhelm the department with phone calls which will ultimately slow down the process.
