GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – In the early afternoon hours of Friday afternoon, August 7th, a two-story home located on French Avenue in Gridley was overrun by flames.

The blaze looked to have begun on the second floor of the home – black smoke and flames clearly visible from multiple windows. Firefighters arrived on scene at the single-family residency and requested further units as they identified a need for water access and began a search of the home for residents that may have been trapped inside.

Due to the fact the home was in the country and no fire hydrants were located in the area, four water tenders were requested to provide water to the engines. Overall, 8 trucks/engines, 4 water tenders, and 33 personnel responded to the blaze including: CAL FIRE/ Butte County Fire Department, Sutter County Fire, Volunteer Companies 31,42,45, 64, 74.  Butte County Sheriff’s Office, and PG&E were also present.

Firefighters were able to knock down the flames and begin overhaul operations relatively quickly. The residents were not home at the time of the fire and no one was injured. Unfortunately, the home was considered destroyed and the cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
