LIVE OAK, CA (MPG) - Live Oak High School Principal Tony Walton, Vice Principal Kyndall Gibbs, and LOHS staff threw one incredible celebration for the graduating class of 2020 on the evening of Thursday, June 4, 2020. The environment was electric at the Lions campus as parents filled their vehicles with family and partied with a live DJ for hours as each graduating senior was announced on stage by Principal Walton to receive a diploma.
The first Lion to graduate from the class of 2020 was Sebastian Salazar, who lost his battle with cancer on October 27, 2019. Principal Walton presented Salazar and his family with his diploma while he was hospitalized, and he was able to take photos in his cap and gown. The Salazar family was invited to participate in the ceremony and was the last family to come through the line of cars and share his moment on stage for him.
Vice Principal Gibbs said about the class of 2020, “this was a close knit group of kids that endured three school closures in their four years - fire, potential flood, and a pandemic.” A topic that each valedictorian echoed in their graduation speeches. “They’re a class that truly embodies Goodness and Grit, which are words to live by at LOHS.”
This year’s valedictorians are: Erica Valadez, Fabian Zamora, Tania Ramirez, and Jaqueline Aguilar. Salutatorians include: Angelica Fox, Rajun Bains, and Elena Sanchez.
The class of 2020 also broke the losing streak and went undefeated in league for varsity football and made it into the playoffs. Congratulations Live Oak High School Class of 2020!
