GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – Volunteer muscle helped Gridley Relief Group and Gridley Area Chamber of Commerce distribute 8 pallets full of fresh vegetables and fruit last week.
Volunteer members of the groups set up at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church early in the morning of Wednesday, hoping to beat the heat and have the majority of the 325 boxes of produce given out before noon.
The fresh goodies were provided by Oroville’s Hope Center and due to the sheer size of the donation and perishability, the fresh produce giveaway was open to the community. Each box was packed full of bags of potatoes, apples and onions. Chamber of Commerce Lynne Spencer helped deliver some boxes to the City of Gridley and organizations/persons in need, while other volunteers loaded boxes into vehicles.
Although it took a little longer than expected, the volunteers were able to distribute all the boxes to a very grateful community.
