GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - On Friday, May 15th, retiring Gridley-Biggs Police Chief Allen Byers said goodbye to his career in law enforcement and got ready to kick his retirement off in style.

A band of well-wishers celebrated his service to Gridley and Biggs by parading past the Gridley Police Department with signs on their vehicles, honks and exuberant cheers to the man of the hour. Earlier, Byers had commented to the Herald that he hoped he’d be able to sneak off quietly into retirement without much “fanfare” as he wasn’t a fan of attention. The community felt otherwise.

The Chamber of Commerce presented the exiting Chief with a token of their appreciation after the parade. Touched, Byers thanked the ladies and wished them well as they commended him on his well-deserved retirement. Byers plans to spend time with his family, taking advantage of their time together embarking on new adventures and traveling.
