GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - In the past months, the community of Biggs has split with Gridley Police Department and taken their Law Enforcement contract to the Butte County Sheriff’s Department.
Community reactions to the departure from Gridley police services is a mixed bag. Biggs has currently experienced a rash of vehicle theft and other incidents opening up the department to criticism. Social media has opened the topic up with many opinions being aired by the community, positive or negative in nature. Recently installed Chief of Police, Rodney Harr, has made an effort to show that Biggs residents and their safety are still part of the Gridley-Biggs Police Department focus.
In an address to the public, Chief Harr posts the following:
In response to some recent social media hype, the Gridley-Biggs Police Department would like to assure the citizens of the City of Biggs. We will continue to remain diligent in our efforts in providing a safe and pleasant environment, for all community members.
Contrary to several comments, the Gridley-Biggs Police Department patrols Biggs, daily, nightly, and in some cases in unmarked patrol vehicles. Gridley-Biggs Police Officers will continue to answer all calls for service, investigate all crimes reported, and hold those accountable who are in violation of the law.
The Gridley-Biggs Police Department would like to thank those individuals who made comments in support of the Gridley-Biggs Police Department. We rely on the community, and its supporters, which in turn, provide the community and its citizens with a sense of reassurance. In many cases a lot of criminal activity is prevented, because of the community involvement and support.
There is enough negativity out there in this world. When that negativity comes from the place I have called home my entire life, it is disheartening. Rest assured, as your Chief of Police, the safety of our community rests in my hands; you will not be disappointed.
The Gridley-Biggs Police Department will continue to provide professional and exemplary law enforcement services. The Gridley-Biggs Police Department is still currently responsible for calls for service within Biggs city limits. All calls for service within the City of Biggs should be directed to the Gridley-Biggs Police Department. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office, on July 1st, 2020, will take over law enforcement services. We will continue to be active and assist the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.
Again, a huge THANK YOU to the continued support. If anyone has any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to contact the Gridley-Biggs Police Department.
Respectfully,
Chief Rodney Harr
