Bulldogs and Lions Soccer Playoff Run Ends on the Road

GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - Gridley High School boys varsity soccer playoffs run ended against the Corning Cardinals on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Corning High School. A tough opponent in the Cardinals, the Bulldogs knew they had to take advantage of any mistakes as much as possible and mitigate any of their own mistakes. The Bulldogs fell to the Cardinals by a score of 3-1 after a hard fought game.

The Bulldogs, 13-6-2 on the season, are a young team with a lot of talent, showed lots of hope and room for improvement in years to come. Coach Jesse Barajas is very proud of what his players accomplished this year and spoke highly of his experienced and young players.

As a team average, the Bulldogs put three goals into the back of the net per game, on over 380 shots on goal, and had over 770 steals. The team gave up one goal per game on average, with the goalkeepers saving about size goals per game. Junior, Freddy Anguiano, scored the most goals for the team with 11 goals.

The Lady Lions saw their playoff run come to an end on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, in Redding, California against University Preparatory School with a 6-0 loss. After an amazing season, going 22-2-1, the Lady Lions have nothing but a bright future to look forward to in years to come.

The Lady Lions averaged an impressive 7.5 goals per match, with a total over 180 goals on the season. Junior, Baylee Alvarado, had another impressive season, scoring 69 goals this year. Last year, Alvarado led the team as a Sophomore with 44 goals.
