GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) -The Gridley Lions Club recently held their annual Speech Contest at their clubhouse on Washington Street.  Each year a topic is selected by the 15 District Governors of the Lions Clubs of California that is of general interest to the public as a whole, and also of significance to the students themselves.  The purpose of such a speech is to encourage and support development of public speaking as a critically important life skill.  The students who speak will also have an opportunity to participate in a contest that will reward a total of over $103,000 in scholarships to the participants as they compete at each of the five levels.

This year Gridley high school age students spoke on the subject of "Homelessness in California: What is the Solution?"  Winning the contest and qualifying her to go to the next level was Sierra Brady, a Gridley High School student.  Sierra will be giving her speech again at the Zone contest to be held in the Live Oak Community Center, on Monday, March 16th, at 7:00 p.m.  This contest is open to the public.
