GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – Gridley’s Vierra Park Playground hasn’t seen this much action in years! Since the new equipment officially became open for play last Monday, February 10^th, the park has been packed with ecstatic children.

The installation of the new equipment, championed by Gridley’s Park and Rec Director Trina Leishman, has been a huge success with families and children who have been flocking to the park to play on the modernized and I must say, really great play structures.

The new section has more swings than before, with a two-seater swing to accommodate an infant on one side and a toddler on the other. The tree shaped structure doubles as a merry-go-round, and observing the play at the park, the older children help the younger ones stay safely onboard as they manage the speed and spin of the rig. The play dome is great for the climbers, but it is the new zip-line that has most the children talking.

Cash White, 6, says, “The zipline is the coolest!” His big sister Aleena White, when asked what she thought about the park said, “I think it’s pretty awesome. What I love about it, it’s not just like a normal park… Much, much better than a normal one!” She agrees that the zipline is also her favorite.

And it’s not just the little kids that are raving. Older teens have also been having a blast at the new park. Kristi Kipp, mother of August Kipp says that after coming home from the park the very first day that it was open, her teenaged son said, “Mom, the park’s open -It’s so awesome! This is the best thing to happen in Gridley in ten years!”

Parents are loving the new additions as well. Mother of three girls, Jeannie Mattos, who was at the park that day said, “Trina was the right person to, you know, fight for the youth in the town. I think she’s doing a great job between the new park expansion and bringing more to the Rec Center for kids, during breaks and summers.”
