Live Oak Lady Lions Win Sac Valley League Soccer Title
Feb 26, 2020 12:00AM ● By By Joshua PorcayoGRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The Live Oak High School girls varsity soccer team secured the Sacramento Valley League championship with a 0-0 draw against Winters High School on Thursday, February 13, 2020. Their first league championship since the 2012-2013 season, the Lady Lions went an impressive 15-0-1 in league play. In his first season as head coach, Jose Acosta, coached the Lady Lions to an overall record of 21-1-1. Their only loss came against Corning High School back on December 16, 2019, a team they won’t see again until the section championship game.
The Lady Lions scored an impressive 176 goals on the season, led by junior captain midfielder, Baylee Alvarado, with 69 goals on the season. Junior forward, Bella Goodson, scored 48 goals on the season. Sophomore forward, Veronica Martinez, scored 30 goals. Junior midfielder, Eliana Sanchez, scored 10 goals. Senior midfielder, Paloma Vasquez, scored 6 goals. Senior captain midfielder, Frania Figueroa, and sophomore midfielder, Natalie Delrio, each scored 5 goals. Freshman Alexia Sanchez, Alea Long, and Ana Tinoco, each scored 1 goal on the season.
With their amazing season, the Lady Lions secured a first round bye in the Northern Section California Interscholastic Federation playoffs as the number four seed. The Lady Lions will play at home on Thursday, February 20, 2020, against the round one winner between Wheatland High School and Oroville High School. Game time will begin at 3:00PM.
