GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) – Parents, Students, and community members are coming together to support this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Las Plumas - Oroville Alliance Band students. These young adults are enduring hard work, dedication and great lengths for a country-wide title and amazing experience.

After performing at the 2018 Seattle Heritage Music Festival, they learned they not only won first place in their division, but also Top Overall Band out of 68 groups from across the continent. They are now facing an even bigger feat and farther destination. Of 120 bands, LPO was selected with only eleven others to perform at Carnegie Hall in Manhattan, New York.

“It’s been an amazing journey already…” says Dana Lamb, LPO Fundraising Chairperson, “From the first blush of excitement, to the realization that now they have to actually get there musically, as well as keeping their grades up to be eligible to go”. Band Boosters express appreciation for the community, not only with funding the trip, but with motivation and emotional support as well.

To reach their next destination, they will need to have raised over $200,000. Expenses include equipment, travel, lodging, ensured safety, and educational activities that benefit their futures. This is a Scholarship program allowing students from across the world to experience performance arts and some of the best sights in New York City.

Several Fundraising Events have been held, and very successful. They are just shy of their financial goal and have some final fundraisers before their departure in April, including raffling off a Harley Davidson Sportster to a lucky winner at the Feather Falls Casino on March 1st. Tickets are $5/each or five for $20. Buy tickets and T-shirts at this 3-day event. Instructor, Michael Walker, has also partnered with Chico Theater Co. Proceeds from each ticket purchased for “The Music Man”, playing through Feb. 16th, will go towards funding. LPO and CTC performances will also be seen at another event, “Sweet Suites” on Feb. 22nd.
