Live Oak Varsity Football Secures First League Championship in Almost a Decade

LIVE OAK, CA (MPG) - The Live Oak varsity football team went 2-4 in league during the 2018 season. A year later, head coach Jim Arostegui has his team believing in their true potential in the Division III Sacramento Valley League. Friday, November 8th, the Lions traveled to Colusa High School for their final regular season game and a shot at a league championship. The Lions entered the contest 5-0 in league (7-2 overall) against the 3-2 (5-4 overall) RedHawks.
The Lions got on the board first in the first quarter, and took a 14-0 lead into halftime. Another score in the third and fourth quarters helped secure the 28-7 victory. When the final seconds ticked down, Coach Arostegui and the Lions celebrated their first league championship in nine years.
Junior quarterback, Tony Vallejo, rushed for one touchdown and threw over 50 yards with two touchdown passes to sophomore, Ta’jon Bloomer. Bloomer caught two passes for almost 40 yards and two scores in the game. Hayden Langley carried the workload for the Lions with 18 carries and over 80 yards with one touchdown. Odin Moody carried the ball 9 times with 60 yards in the contest.
With the win over the RedHawks the Lions improved to 6-0 in league (8-2 overall) and a fifth place seed in the Division III playoffs. Live Oak will travel to Paradise High School on Friday, November 15th, in the first round of the playoffs. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM. Good luck Live Oak!
