GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - It’s been another week of Gridley Recreation soccer and the youth in the community are giving it their best on the soccer field. The 6U players are still learning the basics of how to kick the ball. The 8U teams have grasped the concept of kicking, but are learning how to pass and play a specific position on the field. The competition really begins at the 10U level where the players are still learning the positions, but have a better grasp on creating space and passing from the outside to over the middle for the score. Some 10U players who have been playing the game since they were 6U or younger show their skill level and abilities to put the ball into the back of the net.

Players like Isaiah Melo of the 10U Rams have put the ball past the goalie at least eleven times this season so far. Ulysses Anguiano of the 10U Rangers has put the ball into the net at least seven times this season, while teammates Talan Sannar and Mateo Santillan have scored in multiple games. Isaiah Hospers of the 10U Jaguars has scored six goals so far this season. Gage Meyer has scored at least four goals for the 10U Cruisers. Christian Porcayo of the 10U Vipers has scored twice while teammate Eduardo Martinez has contributed one goal. Hudson Brewer of the 10U Teslas has scored three goals with teammate Alex Esparza scoring two goals.

Jaden Solis and Leo Donati of the 8U Vultures have scored three goals this season. Teammate Reece Wilkins has put two into the back of the net. The Vultures primary goalie, Tucker Martsen, has only allowed one goal in four games this season.

The 12U Crusaders girls team has been doing a great job this year passing the ball around and getting the ball into the back of the net. Phoenix Knight, Alexis Alcantar, Maria Espinoza, Taylor Patterson, and Tanisha Gosal have all put the ball into the back of the net for their team.

Cesareo Villalobos of the 14U Vikings has scored at least five goals this season.

Halfway through the season and many more opportunities for these great players to learn, grow, and put the ball past the goalie.
