GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The D.I.R.T.Y. Elite Sports baseball / softball camp wrapped up on Thursday, August 15th with high praise from participants, instructors, and parents. The eight day camp hosted by the Gridley Recreation Department and put on by D.I.R.T.Y. Elite Sports helped first time and more experienced players learn fundamental skills of baseball and softball. Many of the new players who had never played in a competitive environment, like Little League, were given an opportunity to overcome their fears and build confidence around some of the more experienced players.
During the second week of camp participants learned some fundamentals of offense. The first day, the nearly forty participants learned how to properly run the bases in multiple game time situations. As one large group on day two, they also learned a few basics to hitting and got to play a hitting challenge to see who would be the last one standing. On day three participants got the opportunity to put what they learned the day before into action and hit some batting practice. The final day of camp participants put everything together and played a mixed game of wiffle ball and tennis racket baseball. The fun competition showed that anyone at any skill level could play, have fun, and compete with all age groups.
And with one final break of the huddle with a loud “D.I.R.T.Y.”, camp was over. At the conclusion of camp many new friendships were formed, baseball or softball confidence was up, and everyone learned a few more skills to help them in their upcoming season of play. Many participants weren’t ready for camp to be over and wanted to extend the camp a few more days. One parent said her son was looking forward to another D.I.R.T.Y. Elite Sports camp in the future. And another parent said that her son enjoyed the camp more than Little League.
