GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - The newly established adult sports organization in Gridley, 530 Sports, is bringing sports and recreation fun to the community. The organization’s leaders realized over the past few years that there wasn’t much of an offering for adult sports and recreation in the community, and with their passion for sports, they had to offer this.
Over the past few years the two organizers have put together seasons of slow pitch softball and one season of kickball, and each year the number of participants has increased exponentially. Maybe two years ago, there were about sixty participants. Last year, the numbers increased to about one hundred participants. This year, the projected participants are close to one hundred and forty. Adult athletes from all over the 530 area code have come to Gridley in the past few years to participate in slow pitch softball.
Each sports season will run for eight weeks with an additional week of playoffs to determine a season champion. This summer’s slow pitch softball season will run from July 8th - September 17th, with a two week break in between during the first two weeks of August.
There are two different leagues: a competitive league and a non-competitive league. The competitive league games will be played on Monday evenings with start times at 6:30 pm, 7:40pm, and 8:50pm. With more teams in the non-competitive league, the games will be played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with start times at 7:00 pm and 8:15 pm.
Last year’s champions, Sons of Pitches, look to keep their title intact as they set to face off against last year’s runner up, Ball Busters, on Monday, July 8th, at 7:40 PM. The non-competitive league will have a new champion at the end of the season since there was only one league last year.
Come on out to Kawasaki field at Vierra Park Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday evenings to enjoy some adult sports entertainment.
