GRIDLEY, CA (MPG) - For those who are not aware, there’s something for all ages going on at the Butte County Library. Even better, it’s all free and open to the public.
Right now the Summer Reading programs at the Gridley and Biggs Branches are in full swing. Children 0-17 can sign up for the program and for every seven books and/or activities they complete, they can pick out a free new book!
Each Friday, the Gridley library hosts Story Time at 10 am and invites children ages 0-5 to come join the fun singing songs, listening to stories read aloud, and participating in a craft activity. On Friday, June 21st, nearly 20 youngsters turned out to hear Ms. Christy Williford read “The Carrot Seed,” lead the “Happy if you know it” dance and make lady-bug magnets. Children are encouraged to be active, learn to enjoy reading and be creative, all while having loads of fun. On the 3rd Friday of the month, the Toy Van from Valley Oak Children’s Services visits. Children ages 0-5 can check out a toy to take home for a month. Play Time is the last Friday of the month and encourages children to play and socialize with each other, while giving parents the chance to network.
The Gridley Friends of the Library, who works in tandem with the Gridley branch to support library patronage and activities, will be hosting its quarterly book sale from July 9th till the 13th. In addition to the regular book sale where you can fill a paper grocery bag full of books of your choice, for just $5, there will be a Children’s book giveaway! Donations of gently used and like-new books have been donated to the Paradise Unified School District, but the PUSD has no place to store them. Instead, they are donating the overflow to Butte County Libraries in hopes that local children will be able to enjoy them.
Gridley Friends of the Library would like to remind the community that there are adult activities at the Library as well. The third Friday of Each month, the library hosts a Ladies’ Night Out Movie, with light refreshments provided. Bingo is another great option for those looking for something to do on hot summer days. Just pick up a bingo card at either the Gridley or Biggs branch, fill out the five squares and return to the library with your contact info to be entered into a drawing for a $10 gift card.
Recently, the GFOL received a $600-dollar donation in the memory of long-time Gridley librarian Doris Long. They plan to use the funds to help support the wonderful programs offered by the Gridley branch of the Butte County Library and promote the wonderful world of reading in the youth of the community.
